Choosing the right lens for the situation
We all have some favourite lenses we use for certain photographic topics.
Are you feeling limited by your current lens choices in street photography? It can be frustrating to miss out on capturing the perfect shot because your lens doesn’t quite fit the scene.
Choosing the right lens for the situation
Choosing the right lens can make a big difference depending on your shooting style. It also can add new ideas using a specific lens for what maybe usually is preferred for another focal length. You might feel like your creativity is being stifled by the constraints of your equipment unless you have a certain approach and love the limitations of using a specific focal length for all your shots.
No matter what, I use time to search each location for the best options, and pros and cons using one or the other lens. It’s not just about how much of the scenery a certain lens captures. It’s also about the expression and how people and objects are framed. A wide angle or standard length makes a big difference. Where you place yourself in the scene makes a difference.
Recently I bought some old 50mm lenses (one is 55mm) and will look into how they behave. Same lens isn’t just same lens. They all have their own characteristics, so I will get back to that a little later on.
Explore different lenses at the Rome Workshop
Imagine the freedom of experimenting with a variety of lenses, including vintage options, to truly capture the essence of Rome’s vibrant streets. Our upcoming workshop on May 23-24 will guide you through the unique characteristics of wide-angle and 50mm lenses, or any other lens you bring.
Learn how wide-angle lenses can create dynamic, immersive scenes, while the classic 50mm lens offers a natural perspective perfect for storytelling. Join me and elevate your street photography game to new heights!
Use two days to play around and find the best choices under my guidance. Look forward to see you in Rome, or any other workshops planned.
